Millions of Americans experience joint pain, which can be severe enough to reduce physical activity. Limited mobility due to joint pain not only impacts quality of life, but triggers a “Vicious Cycle” whereby a sedentary lifestyle leads to obesity and serious health conditions including diabetes, heart disease and depression. Women, African Americans and Hispanics are more likely to be impacted by the Vicious Cycle, and may not receive equitable healthcare.
MOVEMENT IS LIFE HAS FIVE MAIN GOALS
- Raise awareness of the epidemic of limited mobility and develop functional solutions to
reduce disparities. - Strategize with healthcare providers, community leaders and other stakeholders to combat
the disparaging rate of disabling joint pain among women, African Americans, and Hispanics. - Implement community based initiatives to combat the disparaging rates of arthritis and
co-morbid conditions that lead to immobility. - Advocate to decrease musculoskeletal health disparities that contribute to joint pain and immobility.
- Educate patients on the significance of daily physical activity to decrease poor joint health and improve overall health.
